Every hero has an origin. In a reboot of the classic series, Lara Croft, a young, studious archaeologist eager to make her mark on the world, leads a team of filmmakers and historians through the waters south of Japan in hopes of finding the lost island of Yamatai. Yamatai promises all of the adventure that the crew of the S.S. Endurance could want?treasure, prestige and the secrets of a shaman queen, Himiko. But when a storm leaves them shipwrecked on the mystical island, they must deal with packs of wild animals, a murderous cult, undead samurai and the mysterious force intent on trapping them there forever. Lara is forced to climb, fight, solve puzzles, raid tombs and traverse the island with all its dangers in hopes of unraveling the mystery of Yamatai before it's too late.
