The Kremlin dramatically intervened in the row over Sergey Karjakin's worldwide chess ban today as Vladimir Putin's press spokesman called on FIDE to revise its ruling. Dmitry Peskov, who is also chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Chess Federation, told Russian news agency TASS that chess "must be beyond politics".
